Recovering from Breast Augmentation in Las Vegas
There are many factors to consider when thinking about recovering from breast augmentation in Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Cambeiro takes the time to explain what to expect during the recovery process to each of his patients. Keep in mind that if you are having other plastic surgery in Las Vegas along with your breast enlargement, such as liposuction or a tummy tuck, you may have additional factors to consider during recovery.
- Within several days, the gauze dressings, if you have them, will be removed, and you may be given a surgical bra. You should wear it as directed. Also, you may experience a burning sensation in your nipples for about two weeks, but this will subside as bruising fades.
- Dr. Cambeiro will let you know when a good time is to start up your exercises and normal activities.
- Your breasts will probably be sensitive to direct stimulation for two to three weeks, so you should avoid much physical contact. After that, breast contact is fine once your breasts are no longer sore.
- You should not drive until you have normal return of daily activity and are off all narcotic medications.
- You should avoid strenuous activities such as bending, lifting, and sports for about three weeks. Drinking alcohol can lead to fluid retention and delays recovery.
- During the first 24 hours your assigned caretaker will assist you in getting up to the bathroom, taking medications, and eating and drinking. During the first 12-24 hours you will stay on a liquid diet and advance yourself as tolerated.
- You will probably feel tired and sore for a few days following your breast augmentation surgery, but you will be up and about in 24-48 hours. Most of your discomfort can be controlled by medication.
- Antibiotics are continued for five days after the procedure to lower the risk of infection.
- You should be up and walking on the morning following your breast augmentation surgery, and a light solid diet begun to the point of tolerance.
- If you have a temperature over 99.5 degrees, chills or sweats, a markedly different degree of swelling between sides, and/or increasing rather than decreasing pain—call the office immediately!
- You should be able to return to work within a few days to week, depending on the level of activity required for your job.
- You are allowed to bathe 48 to 72 hours after the procedure. Showering is then permitted but the incisions should not be submerged, as in a tub or pool.

Final Breast Augmentation Result
- Most of the post operative breast swelling will resolve within six weeks and your final result should be appreciated.
- Dr. Cambeiro will ask you to wear only a sports bra for six weeks. Bras with under-wires are not desirable as these may push the breast implants upward, creating an unnatural appearance.
- After this follow up visit, Dr. Cambeiro will ask you to gently massage your breasts several times a day. Some data suggests this keeps your breasts soft over time.
- Regular examination in our Las Vegas practice by Dr. Cambeiro and routine mammograms for those in the appropriate age groups at prescribed intervals will help assure that any complications, if they occur, can be detected and treated.
