How Breast Lift Surgery is Performed

- This procedure is performed with a general anesthetic.
- An incision will outline the area from which the breast skin will be removed and defines the new location for the nipple.
- When the excess skin has been removed, the nipple and areola are moved to the higher position.
- The skin surrounding the areola is then brought down and together to reshape the breast.
- Stitches are usually located around the areola, in a vertical line extending downwards from the nipple area, and along the lower crease of the breast.
- Dr. Cambeiro can utilize several techniques with this procedure:
- When the amount of breast droopiness is small, only an incision around the areola may be necessary (Donut or Crescent).
- With more droopiness, a vertical short scar incision extending down from the areola may be necessary.
- For more severe forms of sagging breasts, a horizontal incision at the base of the breast may need to be added to the vertical incision (anchor incision).
- If a breast implant is placed, that is done through these same incisions, and is usually placed below the chest muscles.
