You may have heard the buzz about platelet-rich plasma (PRP) therapy. In Las Vegas, I offer this innovative, natural med spa treatment that harnesses growth factors found in your own platelets to encourage rejuvenation of the skin and hair.
The minimally invasive procedure has become a favorite option for men and women looking to achieve an overall glow from the inside out. For those who are curious about the procedure and its benefits, this blog post will provide an overview of what you can expect.
What Can PRP Therapy Do?
PRP therapy can help correct many common issues, including:
- Fine lines and deeper wrinkles
- Thin, papery, or “crepey” skin
- Under-eye circles
- Acne scarring
- Dull, lackluster skin
PRP therapy stimulates skin and hair renewal through natural substances found in your own platelets. Optimal results take a few weeks to fully develop and can last between 6 months and 1 year.
Your procedure begins with a brief blood draw as in a routine doctor’s appointment. Once your blood is extracted, I separate out the valuable platelet-rich plasma. Once the platelets have been fully purified, they can be used to improve your skin and hair through either a PRP facial or PRP facelift. Both approaches can be combined with other skin rejuvenation treatments for a custom skin regimen.
This option is ideal for those with mild to moderate signs of aging or other skin concerns. During the treatment, a micropen (handheld device) is used to create small “micro-channels” in the skin’s surface. Your PRP is massaged into your skin and absorbed through the points of entry that the micropen has created. The platelets then promote the growth of collagen and the skin renewal process.
For those with more extensive signs of aging, a PRP Facelift may be more appropriate. Your purified platelets are combined with hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring molecule in the skin that helps retain moisture, to create a biologically customized filler. During the treatment, I use a fine needle to inject this filler into the face to minimize crow’s feet, frown lines, and sunken or hollow cheeks.
PRP can also stimulate dormant hair follicles. Once the platelets are gathered and separated, they’re injected into the scalp. I apply anesthetic to the scalp to ensure the procedure is comfortable. PRP can be used in addition to minoxidil (ROGAINE®) to enhance the overall effect.
People often choose to combine their PRP treatment with another noninvasive or minimally invasive rejuvenation option. This blog post details a few of the most popular choices.
