Top Tummy Tuck FAQs

Tummy tuck often gives our Las Vegas patients a flatter midsection and results they love.Sometimes loose abdominal skin and stubborn fat pockets won’t go away, no matter how much you diet and exercise. A few benefits of getting a tummy tuck at my Las Vegas practice include removing loose skin and stretch marks, reducing excess fat, and repairing weak abdominal muscles after pregnancy. Here are answers to some of the most frequently asked questions about tummy tucks:

Can I just get liposuction instead?
Even though I recommend liposuction for removing unwanted pockets of fat, a tummy tuck is the only way to tighten loose and stretched skin. I sometimes combine liposuction with a tummy tuck for optimal results.

Do I need to have a drain?
Yes. Drain tubes will be placed under the skin to remove fluids that accumulate after the procedure. Your drain will usually be removed within 1 to 2 weeks, or whenever the output subsides.

Is a tummy tuck a good option if I just lost a lot of weight?
This depends on the patient and amount of weight loss. In some cases, bariatric surgery and other massive weight loss patients may require a body lift. Body contouring surgery, such as a body lift, removes loose and sagging skin and improves the irregular contours of the abdominal area, buttocks, groin, and thigh.

How much does a tummy tuck cost?
Tummy tuck procedures usually range from $6,800 to $8,500. This can change based on how long the surgery takes, anesthesia fees, and the procedure’s complexity. The price will also increase if other procedures are performed at the same time, such as liposuction or a body lift.

Can I have a baby after a tummy tuck?
Yes. However, I advise against this because improvements gained from the surgery will most likely be compromised.

When will I be able to return to work?
Most patients should be able to return to work after 2 weeks. This depends both on your job and how quickly you heal. Some patients need 3 to 4 weeks to recuperate.

When will I be able to exercise regularly?
You should not do an strenuous activities for 6 weeks. This includes bending, jogging, and playing sports. Do not lift anything greater than 10 pounds for 6 weeks to prevent separation of the muscle-tightening sutures. However, you will need to get up and walk around within the first few days of your surgery to help you feel better, reduce swelling, tone your muscles, and lower your chance of blood clots.

How long until I see my final result?
Your scars will take approximately 3 to 6 months to heal. You may still have some swelling 5 weeks after the procedure, but you should be able to see and appreciate your new body contours. I strive to place the tummy tuck incision where it’s covered by bathing suit bottoms and underwear, but scars can take anywhere from 9 months to 2 years to flatten and lighten. To minimize scarring, you might consider embrace® scar therapy after surgery.
