As a plastic surgeon, I know it’s not easy to keep skin looking flawless in the Las Vegas heat, but consistent good skin habits can really improve how you feel inside and out. The staff from our medical spa has compiled a list of must-do skin care tips below.
1. Drink plenty of water.
Staying hydrated is a must. According to the Mayo Clinic recommendations, you should drink about 8 glasses of water per day, even more so on days that are 80 degrees and warmer.
2. Exercise at least 3 times a week.
Exercise has actually been shown to reverse signs of aging skin, even if you start later in life. You don’t have to go crazy — just jogging or biking for 30 minutes can work wonders.
3. Sleep for 8 hours per night.
It’s called “beauty sleep” for a reason. If you miss out on sleep, your blood vessels dilate, which can cause dark under-eye circles. Sleeping a full 8 hours gives your body time to regenerate cells, especially skin cells.
4. Minimize your sun exposure.
With a huge array of advanced sunscreens on the market, there’s no excuse not to use it each morning. Stick with SPF 30 or higher and make sure it’s labeled “broad spectrum.” We like OBAGI Sunshield SPF 50. Facials or chemical peels can also aid in reducing the aging effects of the sun.
5. Eat a healthy diet.
It’s all about balance. Try to get in some form of Omega 3s, protein, calcium, and whole grains every day. A grilled salmon salad with nuts and berries and a slice of toast is a perfectly balanced lunch. Eating right will keep your skin in check and help your entire body feel great.
