Laser Skin Resurfacing

Laser Skin Resurfacing in Las Vegas, NV

Dr. Cambeiro is a board-certified plastic surgeon performing laser skin resurfacing in Las Vegas, Nevada. If you live outside of the Las Vegas area, please contact us to learn more about our fly-in program.

Laser technology has made non-surgical facial rejuvenation more effective than ever before. Traditionally, the standard CO2 laser has been considered the most effective laser treatment for repairing aging skin and scars. However, this treatment required significant downtime and posed a risk of permanent hypo pigmentation (skin lightening).

The fractionated laser is a true innovation in the area of skin resurfacing, as it offers the power of the CO2 laser with less risk and downtime. Dr. Cambeiro offers his patients in Las Vegas laser skin resurfacing using the Lumenis® Ultrapulse fractionated CO2 laser, which allows for truly customizable laser treatments.

Candidacy

The best candidates for laser skin rejuvenation have moderate to deep wrinkles, scars, pigmentation irregularities, or skin laxity but do not want or need face lift surgery.

Your SurgiSpa Laser Skin Resurfacing Experience

Your Initial Consultation

At your initial consultation, Dr. Cambeiro will perform a focused physical examination and review your medical history including medications, prior cosmetic procedures and any existing skin concerns. He will evaluate your skin type and the conditions you want corrected, and determine whether or not you are a good candidate for laser skin resurfacing. In some cases, he may recommend other skin rejuvenation treatments.

Procedure

Traditional CO2 lasers treat the entire surface of the skin, requiring significant healing time and posing some risk of permanent skin lightening. Fractionated laser treatments treat only a fraction of the skin’s surface at one time, leaving the healthy, untreated skin to aid in the healing process. Since much smaller areas are treated, fractionated lasers can penetrate more deeply and still offer less discomfort and downtime. Fractionated lasers offer improved results, with optimal collagen remodeling and less risk of undesirable side effects.

The Ultrapulse CO2 laser is among the most versatile fractionated lasers, as it allows for a wide range of resurfacing options:

ActiveFX offers a broad, somewhat superficial spot treatment that can achieve significant skin tightening and improvement in overall texture.

DeepFX offers a smaller, more concentrated spot treatment that penetrates deeper into the tissue. This is very effective in the treatment of deeper lines, wrinkles, and scars.

TotalFX is a combination of ActiveFX and DeepFX treatments, and provides comprehensive rejuvenation, improving scars, fine lines, texture, pigmentation irregularities, and deep lines and wrinkles.

Dr. Cambeiro uses topical anesthetic to numb your skin prior to your laser skin resurfacing. If you are undergoing TotalFX, the DeepFX laser is applied first, followed by the ActiveFX laser. Your skin will feel warm as the laser energy is delivered, but discomfort is minimal. Procedure time varies depending on the area to be treated, but typically ranges from 30 to 60 minutes.

Laser Skin Resurfacing Recovery

Your skin will likely feel warm and appear sunburned after your treatment. Some patients also experience minor swelling, redness, and flaking which should go away within 7 to 10 days. Dr. Cambeiro will give you specific instructions for your skin care following your procedure, with emphasis on proper products and sun protection.

Final Result

Results from laser skin resurfacing usually become visible during the first week or 2 as your skin heals. Benefits may include skin that looks younger, tighter, and more even in texture and color. The growth of new collagen helps the skin become firmer and smoother. Patients often experience continued improvement over the course of 6 months, although results may vary.
