If you’ve had a breast augmentation or any other type of breast surgery, and you’re unhappy with your results, you may want to consider breast revision surgery. Perhaps you don’t like the look of a previous surgery, or your body has changed with time. There are many reasons women might want to fine-tune their augmentation results.
Breast augmentation revision is a natural part of the breast enhancement journey. In this blog post, I’ll outline the most common reasons breast augmentation patients come to my Las Vegas-area practice for revision surgery, and I’ll explain how you can take action to feel confident in your own skin.
Unsatisfactory Results
Your augmentation results should be flattering and proportional. Women might find their results unsatisfying for any number of reasons, including:
- Incorrect implant size
- Sagging breasts
- Unflattering implant appearance
Implant Rupture
A rupture can occur years after your initial surgery. A leak in a saline implant is immediately noticeable because the breast appears to deflate quickly. On the other hand, a leak in a silicone implant is only detectable with an imaging test.
Exchanging Implants
Breast augmentation technology has dramatically advanced over the past decade. Today’s implant options look and feel like natural breast tissue, and they’re appealing to many patients who have older implants. Your lifestyle and body may also have changed over the years since your initial breast augmentation. In these cases, you may want to exchange your implants for a larger or smaller size.
Complications
Breast augmentation is a nuanced procedure, and it requires a plastic surgeon in Las Vegas who has experience and skill. Complications can be caused by surgeons who use improper techniques, so it’s vital that you choose your surgeon carefully. We discuss some important questions to ask your breast augmentation surgeon in this blog post.
A few of the common issues associated with implants include:
- Capsular contracture—Implant scar tissue thickens and hardens, causing breasts to feel too firm. In some cases, the breast can become misshapen or painful.
- Bottoming out—The implant drops too low, below the inframammary crease. This can be caused by implants that are too large, implants that are placed improperly, or breast tissue or skin that is too weak to support the implant itself.
- Symmastia—Implants are placed too close together.

If you have recently had surgery, and you are unhappy with the results, give your body time to heal and adjust to the new implants. I advise patients to wait at least 6 months after surgery to allow the implants to settle into their final position. In the meantime, we can always schedule a consultation to talk about a plan of action.
