Las Vegas Plastic Surgeon Offers Silicone and Saline Implants for Breast Enlargement

A Las Vegas plastic surgery practice now offers an array of breast implant options for local breast augmentation patients, including a new generation of silicone implant recently approved for general use by plastic surgeons.

Las Vegas, July 2007 — Not even a year ago, the vast majority of women considering breast enlargements in Las Vegas had one choice of breast implant material: saline. But last November, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) doubled the options available to women, approving a new generation of silicone implant for general use based on safety studies conducted over the last decade. Plastic surgeon Dr. Arthur M. Cambeiro currently offers a full range of both saline and silicone gel implants.

“With the approval of silicone gel implants, women have new reason to consider breast enlargement,” says Las Vegas plastic surgeon Dr. Cambeiro, founder of SurgiSpaTM Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery. “My Las Vegas breast augmentation patients are excited to learn that the recently-approved silicone implants, which have a stellar safety record, are now widely available. Most women can’t believe how much these implants feel like natural breast tissue.”

Silicone implants have been continuously available in many other parts of the world, but were subject to a voluntary ban for most breast surgery procedures in the United States since 1992. The new generation of silicone implants hold together much better than earlier versions, making silicone migration far less likely in the event of rupture. The two manufacturers of these silicone implants, Mentor and Allergan, offer their implants in a variety of shapes, sizes, and profiles, giving patients and surgeons dozens of choices to create the perfect breast.

“Almost across the board, once women see and feel the modern silicone implants, they want them,” adds Dr. Cambeiro. “But patients need to realize that silicone implant breast augmentation in Las Vegas is not a ‘set it and forget it’ procedure. There’s some long-term follow up that the FDA requires, and I also recommend periodic MRI tests to make sure the implant hasn’t ruptured. Still, from a technological and cosmetic standpoint, these new silicone implants really are a huge advance.”

Even though silicone implants tend to provide a more attractive breast augmentation result, saline is still a good choice for many women. While the new generation of silicone has a strong safety record, women particularly concerned about safety still may prefer saline. Ruptures in saline implants are immediately obvious and the saline is harmlessly absorbed by the body. Saline also can offer a slightly smaller incision and scar, since there are more incision placement options. The main disadvantage is cosmetic: saline implants may not look or feel like natural breast tissue, with patients complaining about rippling or wrinkling.

“Women exploring their breast enlargement options in Las Vegas now have several options to customize their look,” says Dr. Cambeiro. “After doing the research and talking over their options with me, many women are opting for the latest FDA-approved silicone. Other women who might be concerned about scarring or who are particularly price-conscious will prefer saline. It’s a personal decision that I help each patient make.”

Dr. Cambeiro ensures that no matter which implant type a patient chooses, he will be able to deliver beautiful breast shape and contour. “When some people think of Las Vegas,” he adds, “they may focus on the seedier aspects, women with very large, fake-looking breasts. But my patients typically want a more subtle augmentation, a more natural result. I work with each patient to achieve their goals for breast augmentation in Las Vegas.”
