Back-to-School Plastic Surgery in Full Swing
Schools have been in session for a few weeks, but plastic surgery in Las Vegas is just beginning to hit its stride as parents take some time to regroup after the busy summer. Las Vegas plastic surgeon Dr. Arthur Cambeiro says timing is the key to managing this yearly boom in cosmetic surgery procedures.
Las Vegas, Nevada (September 2008) – As schools settle into their yearly routine, parents are taking advantage of fall’s milder weather and lower stress levels to have the facial and body enhancements they couldn’t fit into their busy summer schedules. Las Vegas plastic surgeon Dr. Arthur Cambeiro explains that the typical autumn rise in parents’ interest in plastic surgery procedures is due to a number of factors, including getting ready to look great for the winter holidays and even the cooler fall weather.
“When you look at the calendar, the fall really is one of the best times to schedule a plastic surgery procedure,” says Dr. Cambeiro. “Summer is very busy with activities, and get-togethers with friends and family around the holidays means that most people just don’t have the time to take off and recovery properly. But in fall, you can improve your appearance in time for those seasonal get-togethers and be all set for spring clothes shopping to show off your new look.”
In addition, the cooler fall weather and shorter days can make the recovery process go more smoothly. For instance, most patients who have facial plastic surgery need to protect their incisions from the sun to minimize scarring, and recovering from a Las Vegas plastic surgery procedure while the days are shorter and cooler means that patients don’t feel as if they are missing out on outdoor activities so much.
“Many signs of aging are caused by sun damage,” Dr. Cambeiro says. “For people who spent a little too much time in the sun over the summer, fall is the best time to rejuvenate the skin before damage becomes more apparent. Wrinkles, spots, and thinning of facial fat and collagen all can occur from sun exposure, and parents often don’t notice these skin imperfections until they have a chance to slow down at the beginning of the school year. Noninvasive treatments like chemical peels tend to be very popular around this time of year, especially with people who aren’t ready for surgical options.”
For out-of-town patients who travel to Las Vegas for plastic surgery, the timing conveniently coincides with the peak tourist season. In the summer, Sin City’s daytime temperatures can plateau around 110 degrees, but fall temperatures tend to be considerably milder, allowing for the kind of sightseeing and exploration that attracts patients to the fly-in programs at practices like Dr. Cambeiro’s SurgiSpa Cosmetic and Plastic Surgery.
The majority of Dr. Cambeiro’s fly-in surgery patients come for more specialized and intensive procedures, which involve recovery periods that will often fit neatly into the gap between the end of summer and the beginning of the holidays. “For popular surgical procedures like breast augmentation, it’s particularly important for patients to be able to relax a bit,” Dr. Cambeiro says. “Recovery times are short, but most patients still don’t like the idea of having to deal with postoperative care at the same time as holiday stress, so they schedule their consultations and procedures soon enough to avoid that kind of inconvenience.”
Las Vegas plastic surgeon Dr. Cambeiro generally requires his patients to schedule consultations more than a week in advance, but during the fall it is especially important to plan ahead. “Plastic surgery is an important decision,” Dr. Cambeiro says, “so you need to give yourself time to explore your options and make decisions you can enjoy for years to come.”
